Ranelagh Gaels Annual General Meeting 2009
By Peter Sweeney on Nov 21, 2009 in News
RANELAGH Gaels held their Annual General Meeting at the Beechwood Community Hall on Thursday night.
This year saw some major milestones in Gael’s relatively short history and this was reflected in a well-attended AGM.
On the field 2009 the footballers won Dublin AFL Division 9 to secure their second consecutive promotion while a vibrant ladies football section was also established under the management of Brian Regan.
La na gClub was a major success in helping to raise awareness of the club in the local community.
Against this backdrop, ambitions are high for 2010 both on and off the field.
On the night, tentative plans for starting a hurling team were floated and it was revealed that Dublin City Council have asked the club to become involved in a project to develop state-of-the-art dressing room facilities at Bushy Park.
Overall, Gaels’ finances are in a healthy state, though it was stressed that further income could be generated through the club lotto – particularly through online play.
An expanded committee, a sign of the increased activity in Ranelagh GAA, was elected.
Longstanding Chairman Dick Morrissey moved upstairs to the newly created position of President.

His shoes are being filled by outgoing Secretary Barry Coogan. Enda Marren takes over as Secretary.
Tiernan McNamara succeeds as Treasurer from Conor Harnett, who must be thanked for the tireless work which he has performed while he held the post.
Votes were also taken for two major awards; with Ronan Murphy, who made a passionate speech about the need to continue to move forward, winning Club Person of the Year and Johnny Conlon deservedly taking the Player of the Year award.
Medals for the Division 9 winners will be presented at Smyths Pub in Ranelagh on Friday night, November 27, with proceedings getting underway at 9.0 and all players are encouraged to attend.
