The Opener

RANELAGH Gaels AFL Division 8 opener against St Patrick’s of Palmerstown currently hangs in the balance due to the recent spell of bad weather.

The Gaels are due to start their league campaign at home in Bushy Park to Pat’s on Sunday (throw-in 11.0), but a call is due to be made on the pitch shortly.

If the game was called off it would be a massive disappointment to the players, who have been training hard since the start of the year.

Performances to date have been positive and manager Liam O’Hagan was looking forward to trying out his team at a new level.

Division 8 is the highest that the Gaels have operated at, having won promotion twice in the last two seasons.

The 2010 season started with a narrow Stacy Cup defeat to Naomh Barrog and last weekend Ranelagh got a batting draw against St Maur’s.
