Dublin 6 Derby

FOLLOWING Ranelagh Gaels’ successful table quiz on Thursday night, attention turns back to the playing field on Sunday – and the big Dublin 6 derby.

The Gaels against near neighbours Portobello is always a hotly contested affair – but this game (throw-in 12.0) will have an added bite.

On Tuesday night the teams were drawn against each other in the first round of the Dublin Junior C Football Championship so at the weekend both will be trying to gain a psychological edge.

Ranelagh got their first win of the season last weekend, hammering St Margaret’s to qualify for the Stacy Cup quarter-finals.

Their other two contests ended in a loss and a draw, but the game at Portobello’s home pitch on Leinster Road will be the Gaels first AFL Division 8 game of the season.

Last month’s scheduled opener was called off due to bad weather and everyone involved with the club is looking forward to getting the campaign underway following last season’s promotion.
