Gaels Swoop To Peregrine’s Victory

Ranelagh Gaels 3-14 St Peregrine’s 2-6

RANELAGH Gaels finished off their AFL Division 8 season in style with a comfortable win over St Peregrine’s at Bushy Park on Sunday morning.

There was only three points in it at the break, 1-6 to 1-3, but the home team finished strongly and two second half goals set on the way.

Officially, the Gaels have one league fixture left on the books for the 2010 campaign, though at this stage it appears unlikely that it will be played.

It was a great effort from Liam O’Hagan’s side at the weekend, with the walking wounded playing despite their injuries.

Enda, Gearoid, Joe and Conor Fingleton all lined out despite various ailments and all contributed to an eleven-point win, which was all the more impressive considering the number of player unavailable on the day.

Gearoid was fouled early on for a penalty and Johnny coolly slotted home the spot-kick, though Ranelagh conceded a sloppy goal before the break to allow the visitors back into it.

Barry got the second, but again Peregrine’s hit back straight away with a goal to keep themselves in touch.

But in the final quarter the Gaels made their superiority count with scores from Barry, Joe and Johnny. The final margin could have been more were it not for some wild shooting in front of goals.

The defence was solid, with Denis Doolan making a tremendous block near the end and wingback Ian constantly carrying the ball forward with intent.

  1. Who was shooting wildly? I want to know. It wasn’t Conor Harnett again, was it?

  8. I was outlining my thoughts on his contribution to the game, without getting close enough for him to swing at me.

I felt I handled the situation well and with the dignity incumbent on someone wearing the Ranelagh Gaels jersey.
