There’s A Fair View From Here

Ranelagh Gaels 3-12
St Joseph’s OCB 1-9

Ranelagh Gaels had a comfortable win over an under-strength St Joseph’s OCB side at Fairview Park on Sunday.

Having lost their first AFL Division 8 game of the season last month the result here is what was most important and the Gaels were delighted to emerge with both points.

Following a slow start to the season Ranelagh now have two wins on the bounce and the mood is good heading into next weekend’s break in competitive matches.

Denis Doolan got things underway with the first goal of the game, when his looping shot beat the home team’s keeper.

Jer McCarthy took a break from his studies to get the second to give the visitors a comfortable 2-8 to 0-3 half-time lead.

After the change of ends Paudie Sugrue got the third goal, though there was a typical Junior C controversy before the referee allowed it to stand, with the ball squeezing out of the goals through a gap between the net and post.

John Lawrence never stopped working for the Gaels, getting forward from wingback repeatedly in a man of the match performance.

The Gaels took their foot off the pedal near the end, with manager Liam O’Hagan giving¬†all of his five substitutes a run,¬†though credit would have to go to Joseph’s for their competitive showing in the second half.
