Gaels Back To Winning Ways

Ranelagh   3-7          Liffey Gaels   1-7

Ranelagh Gaels put a stop to their recent losing streak with a thoroughly deserved win against Liffey Gaels on Sunday last at Liffey Park.

Ranelagh have had an inconsistent season in Division 8 but with the boys determined to get a win they started on the front foot and got an early lead thanks to a speculative goal from Cathal MacSuibhne (the same player would register an expertly taken point soon after).

Further scores from the Conlons, Ger and Johnny, including a major from the latter, stretched the lead as the Gaels enjoyed the lion’s share of possession thanks to the supremacy of the centre-field partnership of Brian Regan and Donie Keane.

Playing against the wind it was setup for a tricky opening period for the backs but they repelled nearly everything that came their way with John Daly and Tom Cusack amongst those impressing.

The change of ends saw Ranelagh 2-4 to 0-4 to the good and they started the second half brightly too, ensuring they kept the home side at arm’s length.

Eamon Courtney was a constant thorn in the hosts’ side and although there were a few jitters when Liffey Gaels raised a green flag late on, Liam O’Hagan’s troops always looked in control and a late goal in the game’s last attack made sure of that.

Final score read 3-7 to 1-7 in favour of D6 side and they look forward to their final game of the campaign in two weeks’ time.
