Ranelagh Gaels 1-8 St Vincent’s 0-14

Ranelagh Gaels‘ season came to a disappointing end at the weekend with AFL Division 8 promotion semi-final play-off defeat to a strong St Vincent’s side.

The Gaels gave a great account of themselves playing away at Pairc Naomh Uinsionn, but in the end they came up just short.

The game was deadlocked with just three minutes to go before Vincent’s made their break.

The contest was in the melting pot right until the final kick, with Ranelagh pushing hard for the goal that would have forced extra-time.

The visitors started off brilliantly playing into the wind, taking a 1-1 to no score lead inside the first two minutes.

Vincent’s composed themselves well and trailed by just one at the break.

The club that also boasts the All-Ireland Senior Club Football champions moved ahead early in the second half.

The Gaels then hit their best spell of the match¬†and taking control playing a running game that paid dividends. With 17 minutes to go Liam O’Hagan’s side led by four.

This was when Vincent’s send on the cavalry and they were able to introduce substitutes that improved their team.

Ranelagh simply ran out of steam before the end, though they can be very proud of the effort they put in.
