Player Profile – Dave Berney

Dave Berney

The first man in Gaels history to be chastised for doing TOO MUCH training… The best footballer to come out of the sunny South east since Mattie Forde…  Ranelagh Gaels player profile recently caught up with our favourite Wexican man and Connacht rugby band wagoner Dave Berney.

NAME:
Dave Berney

AGE: 27

HOME CLUB: St Martins Wexford

OCCUPATION: Finance Analyst, Pfizer

JOINED THE GAELS: Trained with Ranelagh initially for a year whilst travelling up and down to play in Wexford. Made my Gaels debut against St Vincents in 2013.

POSITION: Generally somewhere in the midfield diamond

FAVOURITE GAA PLAYER: At an inter-county level, a toss up between Karl Lacey and Daithi Watters. At club level, Gaels Hall of Fame inductee Denis Doolan – leaves everything out there every time he takes to the pitch.

MOST LIKELY TO SWEAR AT THE REF?! He has prior, Ian Naughton.

LAST CONCERT ATTENDED: Foo Fighters, Hozier, Kaiser Chiefs in Slane 2015

FAVOURITE TV SERIES: Game of Thrones

RANELAGH GAELS ONE TO WATCH IN 2016: Jack McKavannagh

FAVOURITE GAA MEMORY: 2008 Dr Cullen Park Wexford vs Meath. Wexford came from 10 points down to win by a point. Same year, Wexford got to the All Ireland semi final, those were the days. Also I was too young to appreciate Wexford winning the Liam Mac Carthy in 1996 at the time but the pitch invasion when we beat Offaly in the Leinster final is the best I’ve ever seen.

SOCCER OR RUGBY: Soccer to play. I like following the provinces though so I would probably watch more rugby.

LAST BOOK YOU READ: The Alchemist – great book!

PAST TIMES OUTSIDE GAA : Long suffering Arsenal fan. I also played LSL soccer once upon a time but I discovered that combining with GAA didn’t result in many free weekends! TAG rugby with my Pfizer crew. The odd bit of exotic travel, I’ve a big bucket list of places I still have to visit!

AIM FOR 2016: Peace, prosperity and to play to potential!

Local Derby vs Portobello
