Ranelagh Gaels Awards Night

Ranelagh Gaels’ Annual Award Night took place on Saturday, January 27.

A great crowd turned out at The Tap House, where the event took place.

Five awards, honouring volunteers and players from all sectors of the club, were given out on the night.

Guests of honour on the night were Sam Maguire and Brendan Martin – the cups won by Dublin’s All-Ireland winning men’s and ladies teams last season.

The winners were:
Club Person of the Year – Shane Minihane
Ladies Player of the Year – Deirdre Breathnach
Men’s Player of the Year – Ciaran McGovern
Boys Coach of the Year – Frank Kelly and David Coyle
Girls Coach of the Year – Maria Broderick and Anthony Kavanagh

Shane, a long-serving player, was given his award following a year of incredible effort. Not only did he play on the men’s team and help out with training, he also managed the ladies team to the 2017 Championship final.

Ciaran and Dee were voted as their teams’ respective player of the year by their managers and both were deserving, popular winners.

The coaches of the year were selected by a popular vote of coaches and parents with children involved in the club’s underage section.

A huge number of votes were cast, with more than a dozen coaches nominated. This just goes to show that all of our coaches’ hard work, week-in, week-out, doesn’t go unnoticed and is deeply appreciated by all concerned.

David and Frank are in charge of Ranelagh Gaels’ Under-13 boys and they have been with the team from the very start.

Maria and Anthony coach our girls’ Under-9s and Under-10s and their brilliant work was recognised with their award.
