On Wednesday evening they take on a tough assignment when they travel to Ballyboughal for a Division 7 league game.

Last week the team suffered their first defeat of the season following a string of impressive performances.

But they will have learnt from that result, also away from home, against an exprienced Scoil Ui Chonaill side.

The throw-in time has been put back by half an hour to 7.30 in order to make it easier for players to get from the southside in time.

RANELAGH Gaels ladies footballers had a fantastic win in their first ever competitive game on Wednesday night.

Despite their lack of game-time together as a team, they comprehensively outplayed their near neighbours from Clanna Gael Fontenoy in the Division 7 Cup at Ringsend Park.

The panel have been training together for the past year so they were eager to finally play a match – something that showed as they tore into the opening exchanges.

They were strong from the first whistle and some searing runs by team captain Edel in midfield, together with great link up-play with Claire, Leesha and Mags in the half forward line, led to some early scores.

The inside forward unit also got in the act, with a great score from Triona the pick of the bunch before the break.

Ranelagh didn’t have it all their own way though, and the home side kept in touch with some well taken scores.

However, a committed back-line led by Patricia kept the Gaels in front and ensured that they had a healthy half-time lead.

Team coach Ronan Murphy made some half-time changes with the additions of Kate and Mary.

Both acquitted themselves very well and a sweetly struck point by Kate off her trusty left peg after some neat forward play was one of the scores of the game.

Martina came more into the game after her move to top of the left and landed three points that will give coach Murphy a selection dilemma next time out.
